Since today was our last day in Bagan we thought it might be good to get up early and see a sunrise over the temples. However we only went to bed very last night due to a power cut and it therefore was too hot to sleep. When the power finally came back on Lesh went off to watch the last 20 minutes of footie. So having gone to bed at 12.30am...the prospect of waking up at 4.15 was not good. When the alarm went off I couldn't get up which is not like me. Lesh said that he wasn't bothered about seeing the sunrise since I was so tired and so we dozed off to sleep again. I was rudely awoken at 5am with the power going off again. The room instantly turned into an oven. With this I was up in a jiffy, showering and getting ready to go out. Les wondered why I had suddenly jumped into actiuon...but there was no way I was going to lie awake in the hot room when I could be out watching sunrise. Lesh as not as quick to bounce out of bed. For I like to get ready this way.....last minute and rushing to get out in time....but Lesh likes to wake up early and saunter along like a snail and still make it where he needs to be on time. So he was grumpy at the rushing round. We were up and out in 10 minutes and on the road to the temples. It was already light outside but the sun was just rising.
As we started cyclingi could see that Lesh was going really slow but I couldn't wait for him to lag behind. I saw 3 people ahead of m and o decided to catch them up to ask them which temples would be good to see a sunrise. Of couse they told me a temple which was about 4km away which would have been the best but I would have missed the main event...so I asked them for somewhere closer. Amazingly they said he next we would come to was also good and no one would be there, which was a stroke of luck that it was so close. I waited at the entrance for slow coach Lesh. When he finally came sauntering in, it turns out he has a flat back tyre!!!oops....poor thing...that must have been an uncomfy ride! We clambour up the stairs and see the sun just as it is poking out. Unfortunately it is a very cloudy morning so it is not the best sunrise but it is a special quiet time for us to just sit and watch the early morning arriving.
We were going to cycle on to see more temples but since Lesh had a flat tyre that had to be abandoned. We cycled back together and on our way back I got a flat front tyre! Useless rubbish bikes....bring back Kit and Armstrong anyday. We eat breakfast and chill all morning until it is time to make our way to the bus station. At the station we see our horse and cart driver dropping off some monks. We speak to him again and he is s o happy to see us and to say goodbye. The bus tonight is not as comfy as the one we came in :( I just hope that the journey back doesn't take 17 hours like the one coming.
